This Storytelling Booth video contains stories collected during a Social Justice Symposium in spring 2018. People entered the booth to share their experiences with racism and discrimination. The compilation was later used as a discussion starter about how these issues manifest, especially in school.

The Storytelling Booth is a re-usable portable structure made of interlocking PVC tubing with a cardboard exterior. Participants are invited to write on the outside and enter the booth to tell their own stories on camera.

The idea for the booth grew out of conversations with a small group of parents of young people of color about creating a follow-up of Shades of Ebony, a video made with elementary and middle school youth in 2003. Conversations morphed into the creation of the booth, an evolving storytelling space that we hope builds on itself through use. The community created during the set-up and installation is just as important as the stories collected on video.
